Due to this situation, expansion of our business to a profitable level is next to impossible. The tax man gets all the money while we do all the work. We’d really like to keep a few more dollars so we could hire more employees and enjoy.

You can subtract your business loss from your job income to determine your total income. Your income tax will be less than it would have been for the job alone. But the lower income will affect a bunch of other tax credits. Especially if you have kids, some credits might go up and some might go down. Depends how much you make.

News Flash! Those making over $ 250k a year are often small business owners. If you increase their taxes, they won’t hire as many people… so Obama is essentially saying he doesn’t want to create more jobs.

There are all these little shops in all the little down-towns around here. Well they are slowly going out of Business, a nearby town only has one left. These little Business have a really hard time staying afloat as it is in this economy, let alone hiring people and expanding.

So can’t we all agree, reps, Dems, libs, and Conservatives alike, that the last thing these little Business need is more taxes on their shoulders?

I have a small internet store and this will be the fourth year I had to claim a loss on my taxes “due to the economy.” I’ve heard you can only claim a loss for 3 years, is that true?

There’s no limit to the number of years you can claim a business loss on your taxes. However as a general rule of thumb, if your business isn’t showing a net profit after 3 years, they will become very suspicious and you become a prime suspect for an in depth audit. If you have good records and can justify every little expense, then you will make it through the audit without too many changes.
