Question by handyrandy: Mccain intro’d in 1983, and passed in 1984, 66% increase in Self Employment taxes for Small Business. Why? ?
He introduced a bill to increase Self Employment Tax from 9% to 15% for small businesses, increasing the rate by 66%. How can he claim to be for small businesses?

Back then, the deductions that people were taking for “self employed” status were enormous and very liberal, too liberal. You could deduct everything except the kitchen sink if you had your own business, and the business could be as minor as Avon…really. I don’t remember him doing that but if he did it was to counteract the greed of the ones sucking off the system, legally, but sucking none the less.
